Import Export Code (IEC) is a mandatory 10-digit business identification number issued by DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) for anyone engaged in import or export of goods and services from India. Without an IEC, customs clearance is not possible and foreign remittances cannot be received for export of services.

IEC registration is done online on the DGFT portal and is valid for a lifetime with annual online updating required. A single IEC suffices for all branches and divisions of the same entity. For service exporters and freelancers receiving foreign remittances, IEC enables proper FEMA compliance and LUT filing for GST-free exports.

Our team completes IEC registration in 2–3 working days using your PAN, bank details, and entity documents — and also provides guidance on how to use IEC for GST LUT and FEMA compliance.

Why Choose Our Import Export Code (IEC) Service

1

Export-Import Gateway

IEC is the entry pass for all international trade. Without it, banks cannot process foreign trade transactions under FEMA.

2

Lifetime Validity

IEC, once issued, is valid for the lifetime of the business. No renewal required — only annual online update on DGFT portal.

3

GST LUT Filing

IEC enables filing Letter of Undertaking (LUT) under GST to export goods/services without paying IGST — significant cash flow benefit for exporters.

4

FEMA Compliance

IEC is required for receiving foreign remittances through banking channels. Freelancers and IT services exporters need IEC for legitimate forex inflows.

5

Government Schemes

IEC enables access to Export Promotion Schemes like MEIS, RoSCTL, DFIA, and EPCG — significant cost savings for exporters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is IEC mandatory for service exporters?+
Yes, for most service exporters receiving foreign remittances. Freelancers receiving foreign payments via bank must have IEC to ensure FEMA compliance.
Who is exempt from IEC?+
Individuals importing/exporting for personal use, government departments, charitable organisations, and people importing/exporting from Nepal/Bhutan under certain conditions.
How long does IEC registration take?+
Typically 2–3 working days after submission of complete documents on the DGFT portal. IEC is issued digitally and immediately usable.
Is IEC linked to PAN?+
Yes. IEC is directly linked to the entity's PAN. One entity can have only one IEC, regardless of the number of branches or import/export categories.
What is annual IEC updating?+
From 2022, IEC holders must update their IEC profile on DGFT portal annually (April–June) to keep it active. Inactive IECs are deactivated by DGFT.
