Digital Signature Certificates (DSC) expire after 1 or 2 years from the date of issue. An expired DSC cannot be used for any regulatory filing — MCA forms, GST applications, income tax filings, or e-tenders will all be rejected. When should I renew my DSC?+
At least 30 days before expiry. Some portals (MCA21) stop accepting DSC filings a few weeks before expiry date. Don't wait until the last day.
Can I use my existing USB token for DSC renewal?+
Usually yes. The new certificate is installed on the same token. If the token is damaged or locked, a new token must be procured.
What happens if I let my DSC expire?+
The expired DSC cannot sign any document. You'll need to apply fresh (not renewal) with full KYC verification — same timeline and process as a new DSC.
Can DSC renewal be done remotely?+
Yes. With Aadhaar-linked mobile for OTP and video KYC, DSC renewal is fully remote — applicable for most major Certifying Authorities.
Do I need to change my DSC password after renewal?+
The new certificate is installed on your token with a fresh PIN. Old PIN may or may not carry over — set a strong new PIN and update it in all portals.
